Peachy had a fever today and stayed home from church. Tim had various meetings, so I opted to stay home with her (someone has to cuddle!). She was napping when everyone got home from church. In my efforts to keep the house quiet, I suggested that we sit on the couch and read.
Up until this past August when school started, we were faithful readers. I read to the big kids every day. Zillions and zillions of books. We would cuddle, laugh, and take our time analyzing the story.
But once 1st grade started, this cherished time has become non-existent. The kids have to read to me their various "take home books" from school and usually it is squished between homework and dinner. There isn't nearly the snuggling that there should be nor is there the time. Plus, some of the stories aren't all that fun.
Today was a good reminder to me of what should really be important. We all sat on the couch and got cozy. I read some our favorite books and the big kids read to me. It was nice to not have to worry about reading minutes and power words.
Hooray for a sick day!
