Tender Mercies

I feel like we have been blessed with abundant amount of tender mercies lately. Mercies I just don’t want to forget.

1. I took ALL the kids to church by myself. 3 hours. Quiet. Small spaces. 4 kids. I can’t tell you how nervous I was. I take the kids lots of places by myself, but most of those places you don’t have to be super quiet or sit still in a pew. This was a huge milestone for me.

2. We went out to eat at a sit down restaurant. We never go out to eat, but the kids received a “free meal” coupon and we ventured out. Of course, we had our talk about manners, quiet voices, sitting in our seat, but I was really nervous!

It was a lovely and delightful meal. WOW! Tim and I talked about how far we have come and this was actually a fun night eating out. I still don’t think we will eat out a lot, but if we need to we will be ready!

3. One of our kids has struggled with reading. Not that this kid isn’t smart, but it is taking awhile. Tim and I discussed getting a tutor. Wowzer – we would need to sell a kid to be able to afford that. I knew that I had reached my limit as a parent-teacher and wasn’t sure what to do next.

While at the library one night (which is not my regular time), I noticed a sign “Reading Tutoring Spots Available”. I chatted with my librarian friend and asked her for more details.

Our library has a state sponsored reading tutoring program - as in FREE. The tutor is a retired kindergarten teacher. This blessing just seemed to fall right into our lap.

Our child has progressed by leaps and bounds. It is so fun to watch the improvement.

I’m so grateful for tender mercies!
