October 2018

Region meet at Sugarhouse Complex.

23:48 for a 3 mile course....a big PR!

General Women's Session with cousins.  We got dinner after at Zupas.

Annie had an amazing soccer game!  She has gotten so aggressive this season.

Carter has been playing lots of basketball at the high school with the Think Swish program.  He also played in the flag football semi finals....but they lost.

We enjoyed General Conference weekend (especially the cinnamon rolls).  President Nelson introduced 2 hour church!

We enjoyed chili at the ward trunk or treat!  We went through three bags of candy.

We finally got our family pictures back.  It was a neat idea to have them taken at the Color Wall, but they did not turn out as well as I hoped they would.

After the third xray, Georgia finally got cleared to take off her boot.  The day before we left for Mexico!

For fall break, we drove Las Vegas--then to San Diego.  We rented a house on Mission Beach.

Saturday night, the big kids went to the San Diego Temple to do baptisms for the dead.  Georgia and I went to get ice cream.

We rode a lot of Lime scooters.

We went to sacrament meeting in Mission Beach.

We went to Old Town San Diego and to the Mormon Battalion.

We had dinner in Little Italy!

Sea World on Monday.  Everyone enjoyed the animal shows.

We met our group from the Child's Hope Foundation at a Walmart in San Diego.  We slept at the Door of Faith campground.

We were greeted by a frog in the toilet.

Our first afternoon at the Buena Vida orphanage, we ate dinner and played lots of Uno.

We at rice, beans and some sort of meat for every meal.  The food was great!

We spent Wednesday morning at the Buena Vida working.  Lots of sweeping, moving buckets of sand, and sanding beams.

We went to the Ranchos De Los Ninos Orphanage.  It is also supported by a Child's Hope Foundation.

We went to Ensenada on Wednesday night for dinner.  We found an OXXO with our favorite ice cream!

Thursday morning we headed to the Breakfast Club in the Tijuana Dump. The Breakfast Club is located in the Tijuana garbage dump. When the trash dump opened, people came to stay there to live off the contents. The city eventually closed the dump, but the people stayed. A christian church built a physical building in the dump. The chapel is located in the upper part of the building and a soup kitchen is in the basement.

We made breakfast one morning for the woman and children in the soup kitchen. Those beautiful people who came to eat breakfast lived at a whole new level of poverty. The minister of this church asked if we wanted to donate a basket of groceries to a family in need. We went to a local grocery store and fill a laundry basket full of food and household supplies.

When we returned, we hiked up the pile of garbage with the food to a shantie at the top. The Medina family had 5 children. Their entire “home” was the size of my master bedroom for the family of 7. Mr Medina asked if he could pray for family. The minister’s son translated the words of this prayer.

Hiking up the pile of garbage.

On the way back to Buena Vida, we stopped by the Tijuana Temple.  We went into the visitor's center.  We were very grateful for the clean bathrooms and drinkable water.

We went into Rosarito for dinner on Friday night.  Lots of shopping for trinkets.

Friday morning we were back at the construction site at Buena Vida.

The ice cream man came to visit.  Best ice cream EVER!

Georgia loved ringing the breakfast bell.

Friday night was the fiesta and pinata at Buena Vida.

We left La Mission first thing on Saturday morning.  At the US/Mexico border crossing, there were ton of vendors trying to sell stuff.  It took us 1.5 hours to cross the border into the USA!

I asked the kids if they wanted to eat tacos for lunch....ha ha!  Everyone wanted a burger and fries!

I ran the Haunted Half Marathon.  Definitely not my best race.   But it was a beautiful course

Halloween party at Grandpa and Grandma's house.

Georgia went to the orthodontist.  Braces are in her near future!

Halloween parade at Barratt!

I got to help at Georgia's class party.  Georgia went trick or treating with a bunch of friends from her class!
