Super Saturdays

Lately, parenthood has been kicking my tail (but that is a whole other post).  There are so many things that I feel like I could be doing better.

But one of the few things, I have really been enjoying and feel like I'm doing right is our Super Saturdays.  We started these when school started last fall.

This is how they work:  Each kids gets their own Saturday during the month to do whatever they want (there are certain perimeters set up), alone, with a parent of choice.  There has been a lot of trips to Chuck E Cheese, Mcdonalds (our kids just figured out they serve breakfast!), Krispy Kreme, go to the craft store to get stickers, go to the gas station to get a treat.  I LOVE Super Saturdays - the kids get so excited and chatter non-stop.  I love it because they feel special and get the time and attention they need.

Last week, Carter got a new bike.  Knowing his Super Saturday was coming up, I asked him if he wanted to go on a BIG bike ride on a trail to a park.  His little eye lit up like a Christmas tree and he eagerly agreed.

He brought his backpack full of treats and off we went.  I was so proud of my little guy who wore his helmet (he doesn't like to wear it) and obeyed all biking rules (like don't run into people who are walking).

He climbed a big hill and declared that was the hardest he had ever peddled.  We went to 2 parks, rode 1 mile and ate way too many treats.  I told my biking bud that when I am able to run again, he can come with me during the last mile.

Nice ride Carter!
